Saying that a disabled child or adult “will never live independently” is such a slap in the face. I think it’s unacceptable and I think it’s lazy. No one will ever live independently! No one is living independent of medical care, emotional support, and goods/services provided by others. Humans are a deeply interdependent species. Disabled people are sometimes rendered ~dependent~ specifically on a state or family apparatus in a way that makes them vulnerable to abuse or exploitation, but this isn’t the only way to experience “”dependency.”“

Some people are just told that they are “independent” because their lives and needs are normalized to such an extent that the enormous amount of support they receive is invisible.

ableist language is more than just ableist vocabulary. it is also ableist intent, ableist tone, ableist subtext. this is why it isn’t enough to replace words with other words. if you’re still using the new words to insult peoples’ physical and mental functions, you have learned nothing and nothing has changed.

wow it really sucks seeing people i follow (and am friends with) reblog this uncritically like…this post is really disgusting

there are people who pay a lot of attention to body language and link little things together and its actually super validating for them to do that bc they are bad at looking at the big picture and like

yeah i get that tumblr in general likes to make fun of fandom blogs but this is something that a lot of people do (including me) and its really upsetting to see so many people that i respect and admire reblogging this post like its a huge joke

i think this way!!! im bad at things like this and im autistic so its really hard for me to think differently and like?? whatever, its cool, you can all make fun of people who do shit like this but im not going to be your friend if you do.

my way of thinking isnt like a 5 year old and its something im really fucking insecure about and something i struggle with a lot so im glad you all are having a great time poking fun at me and others like me

Justifying the murder of disabled children with comments like “the parent was stressed”, is disgusting. These actions are not the result of stress, they’re the result of abled people deciding we’re not worth anything, that living and existing while disabled is a burden.

You don’t kill us because you’re “stressed”, you kill us because you don’t value our lives.

Okay but stop fucking ignoring ADHD/ADD literally no one on this site even touches the subject hell more than half the population doesn’t even think it’s real and that the best way to cure it is to beat your child. Pay more attention to us just because it’s more commen than others doesn’t mean it’s understood

I think the fact that she and Kelli Stapleton were both “autism mom” bloggers is not a coincidence. I think there’s something very very scary and dangerous about the way most of that community talks about their children. And it’s past the point where it’s just harmful, it’s actually resulted in two separate parents trying to kill their children, and one succeeding.

This wasn’t even a murder-suicide. It was just a murder. She decided her son was too difficult, so she murdered him. I hope she spends the rest of her life in prison.

hey if you’re allistic you absolutely need to reblog this. this needs to get out there. just saying

hey how about allistics not fucking ignore this like every other murder of autistic children, dont ignore how the media is painting the mother as stressed and on edge as an excuse, dont ignore how she’s not being fully blamed and how this was an “understandable” response because her child was too much of a “burden.” dont fucking ignore this. the media is victim blaming a dead six year old do not ignore this

this post doesn’t even have a thousand notes, allistic tumblr SJs prove yet again that they don’t give a fuck about autistic children getting killed by their allistic caretakers! great job! fuck every allistic! every single one

regardless of obnoxious otherkin, the fact remains that a huge amount of otherkin (especially ones who claim species dysphoria) are neurodivergent, and being otherkin is often an expression of that. the reason i say this especially applies to otherkin who experience species dysphoria is because this term is actually documented to the point that it’s been made clear that they have the belief that they receive sensory information that they don’t have. guess what, this is related to derealization and is a documented disorder/disordered state that arises from neurodivergence. people who experience this belief are not just lying, their brain activity matches their belief that there’s a limb/other body part there, and could be categorized as a delusion depending on the levels of the belief.

i’m not down with handwaving away otherkin as overwhelmingly neurotypical or even pretending like they’re the norm. i feel that the amount of neurotypical otherkin is actually not that important, because it’s the neurodivergent behaviors of otherkin that are targeted and considered the most visible. my non-otherkin neurodivergent behaviors are so incredibly similar to the ones of otherkin that i don’t find it at all fucking amusing that a great amount of you continuously mock the communities. it’s transparent as hell.

your critiques of otherkin aren’t removed from ableism and hatred of neurodivergent people, internalized/horizontal or otherwise.

Reminder that Sapiosexual is a preference and not a sexuality and the idea of only being attracted to people who you deem intelligent is ableist and you are disgusting if you use such a label

i always see advice to artists from abled guys thats like “draw every day even on the days where you feel totally uninspired and like you cant even pick up a pencil” and i actually think that advice sucks and is terrible because some of us will spiral out of control into horrible depressive episodes if we force ourselves to draw on days where we feel terrible and end up with something less than spectacular so my advice to artists is “take breaks and love yourselves”

autistic pride is so important because autistic children like myself are constantly treated as and made to feel like burdens to their loved ones, their family, and even society as a whole.

we literally get people saying things like “if i was autistic, i would kill myself” and caretakers who get sympathy for wanting to kill autistic kids. people will justify our existence only by how productive we are and how neurotypical we can appear. when parents find out their kid is autistic, it should not be immediately followed by an apology.

like, no, being autistic is not always fun or easy to deal with, but you can’t separate me from my autism, and i can’t keep feeling like i’m some kind of unfortunate happenstance.

autistic pride is important. i am not a burden. and if that means i’m ‘romanticizing autism’ or ‘glorifying it’, so be it.

autistic kids deserve better than this.

polllyanna

"derp/herp derp" is ableist stop fucking using it, it is a term that originated with making fun of kids with down syndrome and being like "ha ha derp face:-P" and it has been used against disabled people for so long after that, please stop using it, get mad at people that do use it, please

cheapfilling

college is catered towards the able bodied and able minded. school applauds people who can stay up all night, skip meals, and work endlessly. that kind of extreme contribution is expected. why are disabled people being squeezed out of academic institutions? why should I feel inferior because of some arbitrary and ridiculous standard?
