[tw: racism, slavery] Actual things that should be done with plantations
elegantly-tasteless

-burn them all to the ground

- sacred museums telling the actual history of slavery not glorifying the lives of slave owners

-genetic testing/ ancestry mapping sites for Black Americans

onlyblackgirl

People have weddings on plantations? What kinda sick shit…….

dogpawsswapgod

check out African American History Fail on twitter, run by someone working on a plantation that educates visitors about the lives of slaves who lived and worked there before emancipation. tweets about white visitors who are confused/confounded by the focus on the slaves rather than the white slavers

coffeeandcursewords

I’ve waited a long time for this post

How do people put up with all of the "Jesus was POC" or "Jesus was middle-eastern" etc etc etc posts? It's just so frustrating how everyone dances around saying "Jesus was Jewish".

We don’t put up with it, but shout it loudly and repeatedly.  The goyim just plug their fingers in their ears and sing hymns to try and drown us out as they pray to their idols of a model of Jesus that resembles themselves–and not what he actually would have looked like.

smallswingshoes

Idols they’re also not supposed to have, btw. Apparently it’s totally okay for them to edit their commandments to make things more convenient for them when they absorbed some Pagans in something around 400 CE (I think, I have trouble remembering years).

no-more-mediation

But if you’re jewish not christian then why do you even give a fuck what ethnicity people want to suggest he looked like?

Like it’s hardly the worst thing in the world to racebend jesus to black, it’s a billion times better than the racebending him to white for centuries has been.

jewish-privilege

Because, at the end of the day, he was one of us, and having our people be white-washed, black-bent, or otherwise having their identity as a member of our people is not only common, but expected out of goyim like yourself, and we’re sick of it.

Especially since erasing his ethnic origins is usually the first step towards Othering and then erasing the local Jewish population in an area–since their god couldn’t possibly be one of Them, afterall!  Just look at his idol statue, afterall!  He looks nothing like those Dirty Jews!  He looks like us Good, Clean People!

Basically, by saying that it’s better to portray Jesus as black than to portray him as white, you’ve said that you have no problem with taking one of our people and twisting and erasing their identity to suit your wants and desires, and wondering why we have a problem with that erasure and manipulation.

littlegoythings

There is something off about this thread. I do not think it is nearly the same kind of issue to portray Jesus as a Black Middle Eastern Jew, as if Black Jews didn’t exist at that time or any other. Black Jews have been part of our people since the Exodus. Tzipporah was from Ethiopia. The Egyptians who followed the Israelites out and were absorbed into our people (the eirav rav) were likely not uniform either - the Egyptians were themselves  not a monolithic sort of people, but very diverse, with skin tones ranging from fairly light to, well, Black.

Whitewashing and goywashing Jesus is a problem, especially when the only time goyim remember his Jewishness is to try to manipulate us into converting.

But portraying him as Brown OR Black isn’t the problem here. And it smacks of anti-Blackness to insist that Jesus COULDN’T have POSSIBLY been a Jew of that hue when Jews of that hue…were….a thing….

“On May 23, 1838–the forced removal of the Cherokee, Muscogee (Creek) Nation, Seminole, Chickasaw, Choctaw and other Native American nations officially began–a land theft, massacre, and attempted genocide known as the Trail of Tears. A petition was signed by close to every member of the Cherokee nation (16,000) in protest of the planned removal. This resounding, democratic voice was ignored.

So apparently, Russia censored Conchita out of the broadcast tonight. Think about that when they win.

Think about the audience with their pride flags next year.

Conchita Wurst is a white man who does brown face in his drag and hates trans women. If you actually care about trans women in Russia, you’ve definitely missed the entire point by harping about some white man.

ilookextremelygood

some backup info:  Neuwirth has stated that he does not identify as transgender,[7][11] but is instead a man. His sexual orientation is homosexual and he also described himself as a drag queen.[56]He uses female pronouns to describe his Wurst character, but male pronouns when referring to himself.[1][2] Neuwirth created a fictional back story for the Wurst character, claiming that she was born in the mountains of Colombia and is married to the French burlesque dancer Jacques Patriaque, a real individual who is a friend of Neuwirth’s.[7][57] He compared the use of the character to American singer Beyoncé’s adoption of the Sasha Fierce alter ego, or singer Lady Gaga’s use of various costumes, being a way to protect Neuwirth’s own private life.[7]

CLEVELAND OFFICER MICHAEL BRELO HAS JUST BEEN ACQUITTED OF MANSLAUGHTER IN THE MURDERS OF TIMOTHY RUSSELL AND MALISSA WILLIAMS.

Officer Michael Brelo was one of 13 officers who shot at Timothy Russell and his passenger, Malissa Williams, during a chase through the Cleveland area on Nov. 29, 2012. Police officers fired 137 rounds at the car, prosecutors have said, including 49 by Officer Brelo.

Officer Brelo climbed onto the car’s hood and fired at least 15 rounds from close range, including the fatal shots.

Officer Brelo opted for a bench trial before Judge John P. O’Donnell of the Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court. Defense attorneys said their client had feared for his life and believed gunfire was coming from Mr. Russell’s car. No gun was recovered.

Malissa Williams and Timothy Russell were unarmed.

The DOJ has announced that they will review the Brelo case.

You can read the full text of the #BreloVerdict here.

Here’s everything you need to know about the murders of Timothy Russell and Malissa Williams.

do men have resting bitch faces as well or do they not have negative characteristics ascribed to them for putting on a neutral rather than a deliriously happy facial expression

12yearsaking

Yes, Black men in majority white spaces do. If I don’t smile every single second of the day my coworkers become in intimidated and start asking me what’s wrong, telling me to smile, make jokes about how I’m trying to be a thug/act hard, why am I angry, etc. And it’s not just white men at my job God FORBID I my large Black ass makes a white girl feel threaten because I’m sitting down with a neutral expression.

I’m not trying to take this post away from women and make it about Black men but I want to point out that wether it’s patriarchy or white supremacy; those who feel as if they have power over you HATE to see you not smile. They are so used to people like you smiling to gain their approval that when you don’t there’s a cognitive dissonance that makes them extremely uncomfortable.

That’s why “angry Black women” is a thing. They have to put on a smile for everyone (yes even feminist white women) or we all get uncomfortable.

heytheredahleah

ALL of these are Blackface… Why is his account still up? It doesn’t matter that he’s a professional make up artist,It doesn’t matter that he’s doing it as “art,” he is literally profiting for portraying black women. His IG is @ jkbonito please report it.

susiethemoderator

Though many would consider this art, it’s Black Face. Point Blank. He is also making a profit from portraying black women and men like the above comment has stated. He has been known to delete and block Black People who expose him on his Instagram and has refused, by his complete disregard of our requests, to take them down and apologize.

Non-Black POC are just as able as white people to participate in anti-black racism and actions. If he cared about what Black People were thinking he wouldn’t be deleting and blocking those who comment that it is a form of Black Face. We all know damn well the Black Community would raise the utmost living hell if this man was white and doing the exact same thing. Doxxing, Signal Boosting, Background Check, and Reporting of his profile would have been done so quick and documented before he could post another Black Face Transformation makeup set (if he was white).

So let’s just call it by its name, Black Face. Doesn’t matter how artistic it is, he needs to stop. NOW.

- Susie the Moderator

P.S. the Instagram to this makeup artist is : @jkbonito AGAIN @ jkbonito . Comment and report him, please. I have done so and we need a helping hand in ending microagressions, even when they are from POC.

thisisnotpilipinx

i’m reblogging this here because it is important to address that what this person is doing is anti-black as heck. please if you have the time and have instagram, report this person and comment on his work saying that it is not appropriate for him to darken his face and call it art as that is black face which has a long history of oppressing black folks, not just African Americans but it also extends to darker skinned people in all cultures. non-white people are not exempt from microagression and should be called out just as much (if not more).

All these things and people still use the model minority myth to silence Asian Americans by saying “we have it good”.

On Asian “accents”
traumachu

It started when I was in kindergarten, and I was so proud I did not have to go to Bingo class, unlike my friends, because I could speak good English -

although I had no idea what a yellow dog that could spell had anything to do with Chinese.

(I figure out now that it was probably called Bilingual class)

I am lucky. I speak the fluent, accentless English of newscasters, the dialect spoken by the children of immigrants, that we learned not from our parents but rather from watching Sesame Street and other things on tv.

Last year, a white facebook friend of mine posted, “In order to celebrate Chinese New Year, me talk rike chinese man arr day.”

And then told me that she was “sorry I was offended” and “she didn’t mean anything by it” when I (nicely, sweetly) told her that that shit was not okay. She said that she saw it the same as doing an accent, like Irish. Or British. Or Italian. (for bonus points, she even said that she has lots of Asian co-workers and friends, and LOVES Asian people, and so is not a racist.)

And when one of my white friends gets drunk, he thinks his “Asian accent” is hilarious.

And I was told by a coworker about the time my Asian coworker mispronounced “Barroway” as “Bwawwoway” and how hilarious it was.

Here’s the thing - can you guess how many Asian people I know who actually say

me rikey

me from _____

me so solly

(or, if you like, the fetishized versions: me so horny, me love you long time)

if you said ZERO, then ding ding ding! Congratulations, you have working brain cells.

No, my misguided fb friend, the “Asian accent” is not an actual imitation of an accent, comparable to your bad British/Irish/Italian - but rather a mockery of Asian people and their supposed inability to speak English. It is the perpetuation of the image of Asian people as perpetual foreigners in America.

Like that time when my family was at an Italian restaurant, and we were speaking to my father in Cantonese, and a drunken white lady said very loudly, “GOD when you come to this country at least learn the language!”

Or when my father was pulled over for speeding, and although he said “what’s the problem, officer?” the first thing the state trooper said was, “Do you speak English?”

Your fake “Asian accents” are not harmless and silly, because at the root of the joke, it says - you, you are stupid. You cannot speak English. You are Other. You do not belong.

my parents have been in this country for 30 years. They have been American citizens for 30 years.

And they are very self-conscious of their imperfect English, afraid that it makes them look ignorant, knowing that it marks them as immigrants. That, after 30 years, you can still be told (in not so many words) that you do not belong.

The Cultural Revolution started in China when my father was 13. He was pulled out of school and, later, sent to work in the fields. (He escaped to Hong Kong when he was 18, but that is another story for another time.)

When my father came to this country, he had a middle school education and did not speak a lick of English. He worked as a busboy at a Chinese restaurant, the evening shift that ran until 3 or 4 in the morning, and went to school during the day.

It took my father ten years to earn his bachelor’s degree. He is now an engineer.

Is this not your “American Dream?”

When my mother came to this country, she spoke very little English. She got a job as an entry level clerk. Over the years she earned one promotion after another. She is now management at a large federal agency, and manages funds for the whole state.

Is this not your “American Dream?”

And my father didn’t understand why his coworkers said, “flied lice, flied lice!” to him over and over and laughed.

And my father is still afraid to speak in a professional setting, even when he has ideas.

And my mother still checks and double checks her professional e-mails with me, for fear of mockery from the same people she manages.

And people don’t understand why I can’t take a harmless joke. Why I don’t think that shit is funny.

No, I don’t “rikey.”

No, I won’t “love you long time.”

And no, I’m not sorry.

So, please, kindly - FUCK OFF.

ciaomunch

Reblogging this for, like, the fiftieth time because it has never stopped being relevant to my life and it always, always breaks my heart.

It’s not funny. It’s not okay. It’s not harmless. It’s alienating and hurtful.

MENTALLY ILL WOMAN TASED TO DEATH WHILE SHACKELED, BEATEN, AND HANDCUFFED

Natasha Mckenna, a mentally ill woman who died after a stun gun was used on her at the Fairfax County jail in February, was restrained with handcuffs behind her back, leg shackles and a mask when a sheriff’s deputy tasered her four times, incident reports obtained by The Washington Post show.

Six members of the Sheriff’s Emergency Response Team, dressed in white full-body biohazard suits and gas masks, arrived and placed a wildly struggling 130-pound McKenna into full restraints, their reports state. But when McKenna wouldn’t bend her knees so she could be placed into a wheeled restraint chair, a lieutenant delivered four 50,000-volt shocks from the Taser, enabling the other deputies to strap her into the chair.

Minutes later, she stopped breathing. Days later, she died.

The truth is, though, that police have been covering up the real details on Natasha’s death for months. And, even after all of this, police are not quite clear on why Natasha McKenna was even jailed in the first place. On the day she was arrested, she had actually called the police herself to report being assaulted and appeared to be struggling mightily with mental illness before she bounced around between hospitals and jails for days.

Nothing has happened to the officers yet.

The Women Working in NYC’s Nail Salons Are Treated More Terribly Than You Can Imagine
vicemag

image

About four years ago, I was at a 24-hour spa in Koreatown. It’s one of the Vogue top-secret best-bet salons—a really unusual place. It was my birthday, and I treated myself to a pedicure at 10 AM. And I said to the woman, “It’s so crazy that this is a 24-hour salon. Who works the night shift?” And she says, “I work the night shift.” And I said, “Well, it’s daytime. Who works the day shift? What do you mean?”

And she said, “I work six days a week, 24 hours a day, I live in a barracks above the salon, and on the seventh day, I go home to sleep in my bedroom in Flushing, and then I come right back to work.”

And I was like, This woman’s in prison. People had to shake her to keep her awake. And then she would do a treatment. I just thought it was crazy.

“The idea of cheap luxury is an oxymoron. It doesn’t exist. The only way that nail salons exist and manicures exist at the price they are in New York City is with someone else bearing the cost of your discount. And in New York City the person bearing the cost is the worker—and that’s the person who can least afford it.”

Dixon White has a message about privilege for white people: Stop being so defensive, take some responsibility, speak up - and don’t ever, ever, ever ignore racism.

I watched the full video. I’m reblogging, not because there’s anything particularly new or heroic about what he’s saying, but because it offers a nice contradiction to one of the most egregious, distracting, prevailing classist stereotypes about who are the white racists in US society. The stereotype, as we all know, is that poor and working class white people are the uneducated backwards hillbillies who blemish white US society with their uncouth racism. In fact, white conservatives and white liberals wearing nice suits in corporate and political offices are far more dangerous in their ability to implement racism than most poor white people driving pickup trucks.

No doubt, many working class rednecks are racist, but few of them have the power to deny mortgages and credit, deny housing and healthcare, overcharge for utilities and insurance, whitewash revisionist histories and school curriculums, redraw district maps and zoning laws to isolate and disempower communities of colour, harass and imprison (not to mention choke, taser, and shoot) random Black people, or generate an incessant all-engulfing flow of mass media which makes all of this seem normal and good. Most of that institutional racism, my friends, is perpetrated by well-dressed, well-spoken, college-educated white people with “liberal views on race” who smile and shake your hand in polite company.

I would argue that the self-proclaimed redneck above has a better grasp of white supremacism than the vast majority of white radicals and hipsters who think they support social justice and sustainable fair trade, than most white reporters in news media, than most white TV and movie writers, than most white members of the Democratic Party.

gwenfrankenstien

I’ve been reading quite a bit about this this week (Rednecks, Queers and Country Music, Nadine Hubbs) and basically the assumption that bigotry/social conservatism is A Rural/Poor Thing is a really powerful myth precisely because it lets urban middle class white liberals distance themselves– ‘it’s not people like me that are racist or homophobic, it’s those nasty poor people’.
