looping gifs and videos (such as those musical vines with the dog “playing” music) can be very dangerous for people with compulsions or obsessions. this also goes for extremely long gifs that fill in a pattern, for example; that gif of the person winning ‘snake’, or just long gifs in general, for example; that gif of the simpsons couch gag that charts the course of man.

people get stuck on them, unable to turn them off or scroll past, and when they do they can become anxious and upset or feel compelled to scroll back and keep watching.

i’m posting this because it’s something i’ve found many people to be unaware of. it’s generally considered good etiquette to tag those things as ‘loop’ or ‘looping gif’, ‘moving pattern’, ‘pattern’, ‘long gif’, etc.

please feel free to signal boost this, as it’s very important and in my experience many people are unaware of it!
