Hi sorry I was having a conversation with my dad about how Charlie Hebdo shouldn't have posted any pictures of Muhammad as it's against your beliefs but he responded by saying that's only in Muslim Countries and that they can't be against it in places that's main religion is not Islam and I was just wondering what your opinion is (btw both me and my dad are atheists)

i guess my argument against that is that it should be done out of kindness?

in muslim countries, we’re banned from eating pork and drinking alcohol, right? despite that, to make christians and atheists living in dubai more comfortable there are shops exclusively just to sell pig products and places to buy alcohol. most muslim countries have churches in them, places to buy books exclusively for christians, we don’t ever have days dedicated to mocking their religion, burning their holy books, insulting their beliefs (considering most of them are the same as ours anyway??), and we’re not required to do this. if we wanted to, we could easily make a burn the bible book.

the middle east is home to two of the richest countries in the world, we don’t need christian support but out of kindness and love for our sister religion muslim countries do what they can do make christians comfortable. muslim people also do the same and do what they can to ensure the comfort of christians in our homes and holy places because we?? love them?

no, you don’t legally have to respect islamic law and it’s not a requirement. but muslims also legally don’t have to respect christian laws but there’s a reason #killallchristians isn’t trending despite the fact that they’ve been murdering us for decades, and there’s a reason that “burn the bible day” was never a thing. just because you legally don’t have to respect us, doesn’t mean that’s a general excuse to stop being humane to someone and attack their religion and the only reason you’re doing it is because you legally can. :/
