just like the one thing that i have to contribute re: antonio martin today is that the video footage proves he didn’t have a gun and he was pulling out his phone

in the clearest video, you can see him pull something either white or silver or light grey out of his pants pocket. now he goes for the pocket, pretty clearly not the waistband, and last i checked it was really hard to fit a handgun into a jeans pocket

but more damningly, the gun that he supposedly dropped into the street is black. look at the pictures if you don’t believe me. the video proves that antonio martin did not pull that gun, and so to recap we have “evidence” that he was armed that

• was never seen in his hand
• was lied about (the police said that’s what he pulled out in that clip)
• was not seen by any of the dozens of people at the scene until hours after the fact, after the police had roped the scene off
• conveniently has the serial number scratched off, has not been tested for martin’s prints
• is being offered to us by a police department which has been caught planting guns on people before
• is being offered to us by a police department with a vested interest in making themselves look like the victims of young black men

i’ve seen a lot of my mutuals reblogging concessionary-toned posts which seem to be saying “okay so he probably did have a gun but still”, and i think it is an injustice to discuss this case in that light. i think it is an injustice not to call this police department out on what they are doing, which is killing and framing an innocent 18 year old boy for the sake of winning public support
