This is good.

anarcho-cynicalism

for real? y’all are cool with nation-states hacking away until art (however shitty) that offends the ruling regime is censored?

ffs get your priorities in order.

Are you kidding me? What’s up with your priorities? Are you dwelling in cranky ideals, or what?

You want to talk about hacking away? I don’t think you want to talk about hacking away. We’ve been hacking away at Korean culture since the late 19th Century. The US militarily occupies Korea, right. I know you know this. Millions and millions of fucking people are affected by this distant, militarized stalemate that you don’t spend a moment a day thinking about. What Americans find a funny joke is thirty minutes from my neighborhood. People are still impressed into service for a war nobody but the United States and its closest allies gives a shit about anymore. You want to talk about “ruling regimes”, let’s talk about the US and it allies. Let’s talk about narrow propaganda about liberties that reward callous representations of others who live elsewhere.

I’m fucking glad Sony is losing money and Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg look like ignorant, self-centered assholes.

Let’s talk about smug, relentless, imperialist privilege, for a moment. Three privileged shits can make a film, with anticipatory support from their legion of fans about a situation, a place, and people they know almost nothing about. The humor rewards their ignorance. The jokes—we know the jokes, they’re old and shitty—are based in the ignorance of the situation and the stereotypes and propaganda that have been cultivated as a result of the general ignorance. I’m sure they planted a glint of self-loathing and guilt in their script to forgive themselves for being bigots. Americans are often the first ones to admit they’re wrong. Funny how that phony self-knowledge works, though, isn’t it.

What ruling regime are you talking about, and what “art”? Sony greenlit the project because it will turn a profit, not because it’s art. It will still turn a profit. Just not as quickly. I’m sure they’ll find a way to release it. They’re canceling the release of the film because they don’t want bad press. And with the threat of violence at theaters, they’re likely worried about lawsuits more than they are about the welfare of their audience.

None of this has anything to do with North Korea, right. This is about the United States and its devout attendance to incredible ignorance about its war in Korea, the history of its involvement in the peninsula, the history of its disdain for Korean people, and the reasons why it manipulates politics in the region.

You want to talk about rights and liberties? Whose rights and whose liberties? Fucking crass.
