don’t repost japanese fan art from pixiv.

and to clarify reposting means uploading it like onto tumblr or twitter or using it as an icon or anything. that’s whether you source it or not.

like sourcing literally doesn’t make it any better at all. i’m not sure why there was such a huge push for “source your pixiv art!!!” in the past. it doesn’t matter if you source it. the issue is that it’s being redistributed outside of the circle that the artist intended for it to be visible in.

fan culture in japan =/= fan culture in the west. copyright in japan =/=copyright in the west. japanese fanartists can and have gotten into serious social/legal trouble as a result of their fanart being seen by the wrong person.

some artists are okay if you ask permission. so check their profile and if it says something about permission, send them a message. their profile is only in japanese and you don’t speak japanese? too bad! guess you can’t repost their art.
