This sounds like the worst idea ever so I wouldn’t be surprised if more developers cater to these casual babies.
If a game can be wholly experienced with a full-on tourist mode, then it really has no reason to be made as a video game at all.
there’s too much gameplay in this video game. remove it.
why do the people that get paid to play video games hate video games so much
actually, i’d really appreciate a tourist mode in a lot of games, i have a hard time using a controller and i generally give up when i can’t get past a certain point, which usually winds up being early on in the game just because my hands don’t wanna fuckin cooperate for very long for a combination of reasons
i want to be able to see the plot and characters without having to take months for what would normally be like a two-hour mission
tourist mode would be great tbh
Yeah, as a disabled person I really don’t see what tourist mode would take away from other players. Does it really bother you that people without as much skill can also enjoy a game? Personally, I have a lot of difficulty with some sequences. I really don’t see a downside here.
even as a generally skilled, “Hella Hard difficulties are my comfort zone” type of player, a tourist mode would be very fun in that “goofing off” type of way. what if I want to explore some stuff beyond pools of lava, what if I want to dive into the deepest depths and explore the waters without worrying about my breath count or if I just wanna check out the models of the enemies or just pretend to be a ghost in the universe and go literally wherever I please. This type of mode obviously wouldn’t work for every type of game, but for those that can theoretically implement it, I really don’t see how this takes anything away from the game.
Seriously. I would love a tourist or story-only mode for certain games. Particularly when I’ve already done several playthroughs and might be going through for storyline elements rather than gameplay I’ve already experienced umpteen times.
I really don’t understand this mentality in gamer culture that what someone else is doing in their game somehow detracts from you and what you choose to do in your game. If developers were suggesting replacing gameplay with this, then that might be one thing, but it’s just an optional feature for a segment of gamers who need/want it. WTF?
As a developer myself, I never like the mentality of people who complain about things like the golden tanooki suit in Mario 3D Land (which shows up as an option if you fail a level a certain amount of times), saying things like “when I was a kid, you either beat the stage yourself, or you didn’t get any further!”.
An average retail video game costs a lot of money, and someone who is especially stuck on a single segment probably will be wanting to get their money’s worth, and they certainly shouldn’t be worried about living up to other peoples expectations.
Video games are not made to be enjoyed in a very specific way laid down by the elders, and they certainly shouldn’t be excluding people based on their skill. If you wanna beat the whole game without using those options then great, but any option that enables more people to play too should be welcomed!
"When I was a kid you either beat the stage yourself" - whatever, I bet all these jerks had Game Genies.
Who cares if the game has an extra mode in it? If you don’t like having an easy mode… DON’T USE IT oh my god i must be a fuckin genius
sad sacks who gotta sneer at anyone who doesn’t feel like playing everything as hardmode as possible can suck my dick. they’re the real babies here.
actual people play games for a lot of reasons, like for entertainment and to relax, that have nothing to do with trying to validate their shriveled egos by bragging about their obsessive focus on an extremely limited skillset. tl;dr your button mashing speed doesn’t impress me, shut up and let people enjoy shit.
tourist mode, omg i need this
it would help me acclimatize to games that have stories but also battles, because sometimes balancing the two things is too much for me to handle. Also great to find easter eggs and generally explore.
I’m so not going to apologize for my focusing problems that make me throw the controller if I fail again and again and again at some part that is stupidly difficult for me because I think in a weird way, causing me to miss what is behind it, be it optional content or story progress.
Give me the fucking tourist mode, I’ll work myself up the ranks.
I want tourist mode so I can stare at the environments and draw better references for them… I nearly got myself killed looking at all the Link pictures in Hyrule Warriors.;;; (He has a cute face, okay and in one of the pictures he’s sad!)
Imagine all the fan-works that could be drawn properly because people could view the scenery without fear of being killed (pause screens don’t always let you see the scene!) A tourist mode would be amazing for artists, amazing for new gamers who are intimidated by certain aspects of the game, and disabled persons who may not have been able to play the game otherwise (way too many games have button combinations that can be tricky for 2-handed, able-bodied persons; it makes it almost or entirely impossible for persons with disabilities)
