good evening! abortion is currently illegal in texas. the state has ordered that abortion is a “non-essential” medical procedure and must be completely halted during the coronavirus pandemic. this is the first time since the roe v. wade decision in 1973 that abortion has been completely illegal in any state. it’s going to be a serious legal fight to open clinics back up, because the fifth circuit court of appeals is full of far-right judges and is siding with the state.
i know there are lots of things going on and lots of things to worry about. i want to call your attention to this matter, because this is a scary precedent: the fifth circuit is saying that there can be exceptions to our civil liberties in a time of crisis.

this is what we call “propganda.” bernie sanders suspends his campaign AKA he wont spend money advertising himself anymore (bc he wants to help with the pandemic) but he’s still in the race. news sources JUMP on the fact that he’s stopped campaigning to tell everyone “WHOOPS he dropped out! better go vote biden! no other option bc bernie dropped out of the race :/” when he fucking didnt!
you can still vote for bernie + your vote will still matter. it won’t influence the democratic nominee (who will be biden) but it might sway policies/progressive agendas at the DNC
this post keeps comin up on my dash and every time i just start seeing red. we’re in fucking quarantine. people who cant even afford to feed themselves are on the front lines. in los angeles county our officials just instructed everyone to avoid shopping for an entire week and that wearing a mask is MANDATORY for ALL outings because people arent taking this shit seriously, still meandering around stores coughing into the open air, and so 147 people are dead. my sister brings us groceries from her job and we can’t hug her. we have to wipe down everything with disinfectant wipes. i’m terrified to do any shopping on my own lest i bring home the virus to my elderly parents and kill them.
posts like this aren’t taking the edge off of a miserable situation; it’s deliberate fucking ignorance to pretend quarantine is just some fucking ghibli movie while people are out of work, out of money, out of food, out of supplies, unable to get healthcare, unable to see or care for their loved ones, or DYING IN AGONY because people think that now is an optimal time to get to know their neighbors and foster wuv in the community (: and wont stay the fuck inside.
the internet loves to do this bullshit with other kinds of suffering, particularly in that of chronic/mentally ill people in my experience, where all of the actual reality gets glossed over in favor of what’s most marketable/palatable, where bath bombs are “self-care” and spoons are used as pity currency instead of reflecting the reality of life with a disability/chronic illness.
