The riot medicine PDF going around is really good from what I can tell- all their info directly mirrors this CDC advice, although there's a lot more talking about specifics when treating people in a riot/protest/street setting.

It also very specifically addresses a number of myths regarding teargas treatments in a way I think might be better than the CDC which doesn't really spend any of time on them. In activist circles, there's a lot of beliefs that get passed around and I think it's good to specifically address them.

Here's a link:

See above rb for link to riot medicine.

Reblogging from myself in the hopes of showing up in the notes. Forgot about the weird link thing Tumblr is doing.

If you're not following the Swann Street siege story this morning, it's incredible.

Yesterday evening, D.C. police forced a large group of peaceful protesters and demonstrators into a residential neighborhood in a tactic known as "kettling."

Kettling is a military technique to encircle people, to box them in on all sides, into a smaller and smaller and smaller space where they can't retreat or escape from. In American protests, it's often accompanied by police forces taking advantage of the fact that protesters can't retreat to inflict maximum harm with teargas, batons, and other weapons for an extended period before doing mass arrests.

It's not a dispersement technique, it's the complete opposite -- it's a technique of intense aggression, and it's controversial because it's seldom used in good faith and often results in intense prolonged violence, with the intention of also cutting everyone caught in the kettle off from medics, aid, food, water, the ability to leave, etc.

Last night, D.C. police pushed demonstrators into a residential neighborhood in an attempt to kettle them. But residents of the neighborhood had been watching, and threw open their front doors to protesters, including a first-generation Indian-American man named Rahul Dubey.

Rahul and his neighbors sheltered a hundred people or more, between them, for eight hours last night, including having teargas fired at their homes and having the police try to enter their private property several times through various methods. They were rebuked and dispelled every time.

Rahul and his neighbors orchestrated food, medical aid, and lawyers during the siege, including ensuring protesters had safe escorts this morning.

All k9 dogs are abused hands down if you post any pro k9 stuff on my dash you’re unfollowed I don’t care if we’ve been mutuals for years, you can claim to be anti-cop or a leftist or whatever but if you post k9 dogs with like “a good doggo! A good boy!” fuck off, if I lose followers over this then good riddance

It’s ALSO worth saying that police dogs serve a significant role in worsening police brutality. A dog trained to attack a human will maim them. A cop looses a police dog on someone, and that person is expected to peacefully cooperate while a dog is trying to tear their limbs off. It is very easy for those massive wounds to get infected. It is an absurd amount of violence. And beyond the initial attack, the fact that a “poor sweet innocent doggo” did this is used to excuse that brutality in court. Especially if the victim, panicking in the moment, lashed out at the dog. As this website has demonstrated many times, majority-white juries have more sympathies for injured dogs than the people of color who are most often victims of police brutality. So they’re not just systemic animal abuse, they’re also a tool for increased police brutality and to excuse

okay no one single more thing before i have an edible and go watch funny youtube videos: marsha p johnson HERSELF said that by the time she got to the stonewall inn, the uprising was already in full swing

however, MISS MAJOR was there at the start, was an early leader in the uprising (until the pigs arrested her), and has almost completely been erased from the narrative even though SHE’S STILL ALIVE

hellforcertain

anyone who makes or reblogs posts this month about the stonewall uprising that do not name miss major as a key figure have to go donate $50 to miss major’s retirement fund. not even slightly joking about this.

What just happened on CNN? Im at work and so wasn’t somewhere I could watch

Sure I’ll sum up.

So there was a very good peaceful protest by…. Lafayette Park? Right outside the White House. They were chanting, they had multiple reporters in the crowd, it was fucking CHILL, people were waiting for Trump to do a speech in the Rose Garden.

Then, out of nowhere, truly NOWHERE, the cops closed in from three directions and threw gas into the crowd. They used rubber bullets on the crowd IMMEDIATELY. One dude told the reporter “They don’t care about new, move.” They drove out the totally fucking peaceful, pre-curfew protestors.

They moved them all out, and Trump started speaking, and you could hear the fucking gas going off over his speech. CNN fucking did a splitscreen to show the peopple being shoved back as the motherfucker stood up there and said he would protect our rights and would mobilize the military against people.

Then back to the reporters, and everyone was forced further and further away. One woman on a bike told the reporter “They are getting the water cannons ready, you wanna move.”

TURNS OUT.

ALL OF THIS.

WAS BECAUSE TRUMP WANTED A PHOTO OP AT THE CHURCH ACROSS THE STREET. HE WANTED THEM OUT OF THE WAY SO HE COULD STAND WITH A BIBLE IN FRONT OF A CHURCH.

Even CNN is calling him a dictator, at 7PM.

Then the Illinois governor came out and called him a racist, xenophobic, misogynistic failure.

Oh my fucking god

i know there’s a lot going on but ICE are now one step closer to literally creating gas chambers. they are spraying a chemical called HDQ neutral roughly 100 times a day, every 15 minutes at the adelanto detention center (one of the biggest in the country). people are getting rashes, headaches, their insides are bleeding, etc. the guards are wearing gloves and masks but the detainees have NOTHING.

and here’s a quick reminder - america inspired the nazis to create gas chambers when they gassed latino people during the 1917 bath riots.

here’s a petition to sign. it’s close to it’s goal. if there’s anything else we can do to help i’ll update this post.

a black woman named zoe amira posted a video on youtube. this video is an hour long and filled with art and music from black creators. it has a ton of ads, and in result will rack up a ton of revenue. 100% of the ad revenue from the video will be dispersed between various blm organizations, including bail-out funds for protesters. it will be split between the following, dependent on necessity

  1. brooklyn bail fund
  2. minnesota freedom fund
  3. atlanta action network
  4. columbus freedom fund
  5. louisville community bail fund
  6. chicago bond

turn off your adblocker and put the video on repeat. do not skip ads. let it play on loop whether you’re listening or not. mute the tab if you need to focus elsewhere. but let. it. play.

youtube will donate to blm for you.

please, please reblog. for people who don’t have money to spare, this is incredibly important information to have.

blueinaseaofred

I know there have been a lot of posts going around with links to really important places to donate, but I just found out that Kentucky’s only abortion clinic, and one of only a handful of black-owned clinics in the country, was damaged in the Louisville protests.

Despite the damage, they are still open and seeing patients today.

If you are able, you can donate here.
