cool so you can hide ads for knowing too much now

secretly-bea

hey!

hey!

probably don’t do this!

when you tell facebook an ad “knows too much” you’re essentially confirming that their advertisement algorithm is working, it’s just making people uncomfortable because it’s working too well

it’s still positive feedback on them trying to either flood people with advertisements or socially engineer you into buying things by tracking frankly enormous amounts of data on your location, the other websites and apps you use, your conversations recorded through your phone, everything

instead? just mark all ads as "repetitive” or “irrelevant”- something that doesn’t give them information on how well the ad catered to your tastes.

don’t give huge creepy corporations valuable information on your ad tastes. they will use it against you in any way they can.

One of my biggest pet-peeves is when nonblack ppl (especially nonblack poc) completely ignore that there are black ppl of pretty much every ethnicity/culture. Like there are black latinxs, black Asians, black Jews, etc…So if you are complaining about the hyper visibility of black ppl by saying “but what about my ppl”, remember when you say “my ppl” some of those ppl are black too and most likely they are treated like shit within their culture as well.

vegans will pretend not to hear when natives tell them their agave products are unsustainable because they have whimsical feelings about, and i cannot stress this enough, the freedom of hive insects

Honey is literally murder but go off

kasaron

Prove it.

blackwashedmax

They literally puke their guts up to make your honey

kasaron

I have not seen any evidence tonsugges they are harmed or die in the process of production. They do regurgitate the nectar as part of the process to concentrate it into honey (an interesting process) but they do not suffer any injury during this process. If they did, the cost to produce honey, which is done naturally as a measure to survive over winter and through times of lower availability, would outweigh the benefits. If you kill several bees to produce enough honey to make one more bee, It makes no sense. Any animal that did that would die, even with human intervention.

Do you have any sources which suggest otherwise? I’d be interested to hear of this (relatively publicly available) information was false or misunderstood.

blackwashedmax

Bee farmers use whats called a honey maker. It’s a crude devices. It similar to a meat grinder. They force the bees in and grind them up. What comes out is a paste. That paste is later filtered into what we know as honey

This is a fair point EXCEPT you have to distinguish between Stalinist communism and Marxism. They are completely different things.

Marx was a philosopher. He believed:

- Capitalism can be useful in terms of it fast tracking technological development BUT once we get to the point that technology can provide us with our needs and less people have to work, capitalism has given all it has to give.

- Capitalism alienates us from our labor. Humans are very creative, naturally multi talented beings. Capitalism forces us to work in jobs that are incredibly specialised, and stops us from using all of our gifts. It makes us more like animals (eg beavers can make dams but not symphonies), than people.

- It also stops us from seeing the fruits of our labor. Many jobs under capitalism are very re moved - eg an office worker writes briefs for a client they’ll never meet who will never know their name. Compare to an ancient shoe maker who sees their work on the feet of people they know, work they did with their own two hands.

- Capiralism is based on theft. It involves owners paying their workers as little as possible, and selling the work for as much as possible, keeping the difference. Profit is stolen wage. That profit ought to go to the people to improve the society. It does not belong to the thief.

- Capitalism makes us easily replaceable and creates an overly competitive culture where people do not treat others as actual human beings.

- Capitalism demonises leisure time, when leisure is important and human.

- Capitalism is inherently unstable. It relies on boom and bust. This means recessions will be quite common.

What Marx wanted: technology to progress to the point that we can produce food, clothing etc without as much human labor. And those things should be free. People should do work but that work should be more varied and free, and leisure time should be more common and not stigmatised.

What Stalin was: a dictator who hid his authoritarianism behind the philosophy of a man he didn’t understand.

the fact elon mask genuinely might ruin the night sky for everyone makes me wanna sharpen my shovel and get to work

For those who are confused, SpaceX has been putting a metric fuckton of little sattelites into low earth orbit, and they’re well on their way to making earth-based visual astronomy impossible.

Like, this was a picture taken by an observatory in Arizona

image

The streaks are all SpaceX satellites. So you can see why that’s a bit of a problem.

Oh what the fuck

fun story, in like... early may (???) i was taking my dog for her evening walk with my boyfriend and we look up and there is just this string of lights all evenly spaced going in a straight line across the sky (this was in florida where u really cant see that many stars so it was extra strange) and we were like what the fuck, what the fuckity fuck, call mulder the aliens are here, but then it was just fucking elon musk and his fucking starlink satellites. but it was actually really freaky and it made me hate elon musk even more than i already did.
