this sentence came so far out of left field i reflexively closed the tab and had to open it up again to take this screenshot. i mean like yes its true that mushrooms are not plants but ive literally never ever ever ever met or even heard of anyone anywhere at any time who has used this definition of a plant-based diet

im left with so many questions. does she not use yeast? if her definition of “plant based diet” is so literal that it doesnt include mushrooms, does it also not include salt? does she not eat fermented food because bacteria arent plants? why does she not eat fungi? clearly its not an issue of taste, she praises the taste here. does she think theyre unhealthy somehow? does she have moral objections to eating fungus? i would like to interview her

followthebluebell

there’s clearly a morel issue here

pandemic episode of malcolm in the middle: malcolm struggles to reconcile his commitment to quarantine safety measures with the fact that all the girls his age are so lonely and isolated that they're suddenly willing to go on dates with HIM, of all people. reese discovers that egging neighbors' houses still counts as a "socially-distanced" activity and has the time of his life. dewey does some mental calculus and realizes that he gets fewer wedgies per day from his brothers than he does from the school bully and decides he'll keep these lockdowns in effect at all costs, so he starts calling in fake pandemic data to local health districts to bump the numbers up. lois gets in a physical altercation with a non-masker at the lucky aide and starts duct taping people's mouths shut, which craig finds both alarming and oddly alluring. (craig then immediately gets infected from licking his hand to slick back his hair in a bid to impress her.) hal works from home but, after slacking off on the family computer all day, is driven to obsession by the thought of becoming the digital solitaire world champion.

So my friend and I were wondering about how new emojis are born.  Turns out you gotta write a proposal and submit it to the Unicode Consortium.  I was looking into it and found the proposal for the broccoli emoji (link).  It’s just so wholesome:

You gotta justify that the new emoji has multiple uses.

Then again, maybe not so wholesome:

By now, I’m like 5 pages into this proposal and I’m like, “why did someone take the time to write an 8 page document on why we need a broccoli emoji?”  Then I saw this:

These guys just really like broccoli.

The “The Glory Hole” at the Monticello Dam in Lake Berryessa, California, came in handy earlier this year for the first time in a decade due to the heavy rains California had. The 72-foot wide hole was put in place to handle any potential overflow, funnelling excess water down to Putah Creek on the other side of the dam. Lake Berryessa can hold about 521 billion gallons of water before needing the spillway, so as you can imagine it’s a rare sight to see in action!

Why couldn’t they have named it literally anything else

i found out yesterday while my grandpa was helping me move that he consistently carries four knives on him at all times. it’s as natural as carrying around his phone and wallet for him. he says if anyone ever attacks him and takes his first knife, they’re in for a surprise. if they take his second knife? another surprise. his third knife? buddy, you’re in for a treat: another knife

i told knife grandpa this post got famous and he got real paranoid as if suddenly everyone everywhere is going to know he has all these knives on him
