Above are pictures of me and my brother, & me and my mom! The three of us, along with several pets, live in a house that my mom has owned for over 15 years. My mom manages a store in town, and my brother and I are artists. Our family has never been incredibly well-off and at the moment we sort of live paycheck to paycheck. 

This sign was put in our yard this afternoon, and we received a letter today also that basically repeated what the sign says and states that we will need to pay around $1700 (dollars) by the 2nd Monday in June (June 9th 2014) or our house and property will be sold at what seems to be an auction on that morning. We were never previously made aware of any delinquent taxes until we saw this sign today (May 16th 2014). They are giving us less than a month to come up with this money or we lose everything. This is essentially impossible for us to do in such a short time.

So I’ve set up a paypal and I’m asking for donations of any amount. We desperately need the help! We have no where else to go if we lose our house and there’s no way we can afford rent in a new home in Bartlesville + keep our pets with us.

How The West Was Stolen

On February 2, 1848, representatives of the United States and Mexico signed the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, ending what the US called the “Mexican-American War,” known in Mexico as the “War of United States Intervention.”

Overnight, more than a hundred thousand Mexican citizens became foreigners in their own country. Although the TGH included safeguards protecting land rights, respecting the culture and language of Mexicans, this was never honored.

164 years later, many families are still fighting for their land. This fight is especially strong in New Mexico and Texas, states that saw extended land disputes well into the twentieth century.

The justification for this war was based on the notion of “Manifest Destiny,” or the divine right to continental expansion. Essentially, religion used to excuse a racist land grab.

As we’ve seen recently in Arizona, there’s a concerted effort to keep our youth from studying the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo and other important parts of Mexican history in the United States. It illustrates how  after 164 years the Mexican-American war is still being fought, albeit more so with legislation than with invading armies.

For Mexicans living in the United States, especially those in the Southwest, February 2 is a day to remember that “we didn’t cross the border, the border crossed us.” Let us never forget this.

Under your logic, anyone would be “entitled” to punch you in your face if they wanted to and you shouldn’t have a problem with it because it’s their hand and they can do whatever the fuck they want with it. That’s your screwy logic.

Who the fuck would be thankful that some asshole decided that their input on their own artwork, that they worked hard on, wasn’t good enough for their blog?????

I don’t want anyone reblogging my art who can’t even respect me enough to leave my commentary where I put it. We put our comments there for it to STAY THERE. REBLOGGING OUR ART DOES NOT MEAN IT NOW BELONGS TO YOU AND YOU CAN DO WHAT YOU PLEASE WITH IT.

• takes away an artist’s voice
• disembodies an artist from their work

• may remove important notes, details, or text that adds to the piece (even if you feel it does not)
• removes an easy link that allows people to find the artist (their username over their comment, that is)
• is straight up disrespectful
