#can we talk about this (noun) for a moment? because THIS (SAME NOUN). (white dude #1) has never been able to (transitive verb) his (plural noun). he’s (sad adjective); he’s (sadder adjective). he (verb)ed all his life and now (white dude #2) has (transitive verb)ed his (noun) and it’s like (incoherent mixed metaphor). look at the (noun) in his (body part). you can SEE the (noun) - you can see how much this (adjective) (noun) (verb)s his (noun). (white dude #2) is (white dude #1)’s (second mixed metaphor preferably alluding to shared dark past)! THEY (TRANSITIVE VERB) EACH OTHER SO MUCH #i just have a lot of feelings

Why I have stopped playing Flight Rising
arcanebarrage

I like to know where my money goes when I buy or support things. I read online reviews, I dig through Yelp comments, I research stuff before I buy it. I price-match, I Google-search, I read the fine print. My personal principle is to try and make sure my money goes towards industries, companies, and charities that I support. I don’t always win when it comes to this (it’s really hard), but the key phrase here is “I try.”

So, with that, I preface an explanation for why I’m no longer going to play a free online browser-based game.

I signed up for FR three days ago. A friend commented to me during my excitement about the game’s fun features: “Have you heard about their game designer, though? He’s said some … really interesting things about transgender persons on his Facebook page.” I wanted to see if there was any truth to this, so I did some Googling. I looked up Stormlight Workshop, which is the company that ran the FR Kickstarter. I went on Facebook and indeed found the page for “Thrage”, one of the game’s designers. If you have a FB account, you can pretty much see his page; a lot is set to public view, including this post — the one that made me decide to withdraw my support.

I … really don’t agree with this, and the discussion about gender fluidity can go many ways, but okay —

image

— um, okay. I really don’t —

image

— agree with you … at all …

image

… okay. So — yeah. That was enough for me. He seems very convinced of his beliefs. I have no desire to get in a discussion with him on the topic, either — I just don’t want to support whatever he’s doing, at this point. I just log out of FR and decide never to log in again (you cannot delete accounts).

But, the game is free to play. Why quit playing just because I don’t want to support a game developer with that kind of public mentality? Because every time I load a Flight Rising page, my browser loads an ad. Those ads are what keeps Flight Rising free and supports the game. It supports this guy and his mindset, and he even reminded me of it when I scrolled back up his page:

Well, I really just don’t want to give you my video game money if that’s how you feel about transpeople.

I do not know if the rest of the dev team shares Thrage’s beliefs; I imagine they probably don’t, and his FB posts don’t really involve them anyway. The game is wonderfully done and very appealing and fun, but I’m already weary of the prejudice and shitty sentiments in the game industry as it is. I don’t want to support another game developer who thinks like this.

So, no more FR for me. :/ It was fun while it lasted.

"I support LGBT rights, but trans women are just men who mutilated their genitals." Fucking gross.

Goodbye FR.

A bit more on this - when this all broke, Thrage was removed from the community eye, but wasn’t actually removed from the GAME, because the devs were either unwilling, or unable (as he partially owned the company). Thrage had also made comments on how, when epileptics were complaining about the flashing being too much, Thrage said they should just get off the internet.

I still have a toooon of posts in my archives of flght rising players defending Thrage, it’s all pretty sad.

Guys, I’m not kidding, I earned an entire college degree in the time it’s taken to see Yamato again. Someone call up Kishimoto and tell him: someone has earned an ENTIRE. BACHELOR’S DEGREE. IN THE TIME IT TOOK TO BRING YAMATO BACK. He disappeared in October 2010 and now, May 21 2014 I am receiving literally on this day my bachelor’s degree. Literally incredible, actually unbelievable.

I think one of the main issues with ableism towards autism is that a lot of people pretty much just don’t know what it is

so first lets go over what it’s not

  • a disease
  • always visible
  • just for boys
  • painful
  • the same for everyone
  • a lack of feelings

It is

  • A developmental disability that affects a persons communication (which may affect the ability to express feelings or being able to relate personally to another persons feelings), sensory processing, motor skills etc.
  • different for everyone and for people of any and all genders
  • not always visible
  • certainly not painful
