"Another scene I remember now as an adult is every morning at school we started the day with the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag…there was the American flag flying over the camp but I could also see the barbed wire fence and the sentry towers pointing at us from my schoolhouse window as I recited the words ‘With liberty and justice for all’." - George Takei, The Daily Show (July 24, 2014).

kind of weird how trans woman are revolutionizing what it means to be transgender on all fronts, with laverne cox on tv, janet mock and her book and blog and more recently joining the staff of marie claire, laura jane grace and her music and newest album, and andrej pejic in fashion …………… when was the last time you heard about a trans man doing something for the benefit of the trans community? oh right theyre too busy being truscum

genderspatial

Oh yeah, it’s almost like trans men are invisible, like they always have been right?

Not like Laverne Cox is a misogynist or anything, source.
Janet Mock thinks that trans girls should be sex workers, that it’s a safe and positive profession for them, source.
Or that Laura Jane Grace who wrote a song with these lyrics,

I’m drinking with the jocks
I’m laughing at the faggots
Just like one of the boys
Swinging my dick in my hand

All my life
All my life
Just like I was one of them

Look at all them bitches, yeah
I’m going to fuck them all
Look at all that pussy, yeah
Fill it up with cum

All my life
All my life
Wishing I was one of them

There will always be a difference between me and you

Also this lovely article of him “smashing a man’s face against a bar” unprovoked. Here.

Also the media is not everything. Wow, Janet Mock wrote a book, Wow, Laura Jane Grace made an album. That’s not revolutionary.

Trans men have done plenty of things for the community, it’s just not reported about because WE ARE INVISIBLE.

Like in regards to Janet Mock’s book, have you ever heard of Billy Martin? He’s a trans man who revolutionized horror literature and how people look at vampires. He’s written about twenty novels and an biography of Courtney Love.

Nearly all his characters are LGBT+, all his main characters are LGBT+. After Hurricane Katrina, he rescued a load of cats and took care of them.

Have you heard of Billy Martin (the name on his books is Poppy Z Brite)? I bet you haven’t.

it seems like you took all of your evidence at face value and incorporated them into your argument without thinking. youre going to need a lot more to convince me that laverne cox is a misogynist or that janet mock supports an encourages sex work.

firstly, TRANSform me is a reality tv show, and as with all reality tv shows, there is a certain level of exploitation. but laverne herself said that she didn’t want the show to be like other makeover shows where the women in question are put down or judged.

ive never seen the show myself before this, but after watching the video you sent me i dont see how you could consider laverne a misogynist—someone who hates women simply for being women. in the video marlece submitted she talks about wanting to be comfortable with herself and feel like she belongs in her age group. she wants to have fun, and with the stress she has it feels like she’s unable to do this. she asks laverne, jamie, and nina for help. just from this small clip it seems to me that the show is more about boosting self esteem than trying to regulate a womans appearance and behavior.  a few minutes later laverne says that the makeover has to start inside, and that marlece has to change her perception of herself before she can change her style.

VH1’s TRANSform ME featured Cox and a team of trans women giving cisgender women “internal and external” makeovers. Once again aware of the problems with the medium she was stepping into, Cox hoped to give the makeover format a makeover of its own. “What I don’t like about makeover shows is that so often it’s about dictating what women should do and reinforcing really outdated ideas of femininity. And I hate that stuff. I hate that shit. I’ll say it. [laughs] I hate that shit. So, I wanted my show to be different.” (x)

of course there are issues with the show, which laverne acknowledges in the interview that excerpt is from, but the premise of the show and the intention the creators had is the complete opposite of misogynistic. they wanted to empower trans woman and give them mainstream exposure, while creating a makeover show that is much more progressive than others.

moving on, im again going to have to say that your claim about janet mock is entirely false. if you pay attention to what she is saying, you’d know she isnt encouraging sex work, but instead the sisterhood trans sex workers have.

"The unemployment rate for trans people of color is four times the national average. We often find ourselves doing what we have to do to survive and I’ve certainly found myself doing what I have to do to survive in New York. But I guess that’s capitalism.” — laverne cox, from the same interview above, on working in nightclubs

at the start of janet’s video the first thing she says is “There is a part in the book where I write about having wanted someone to be there to tell me you don’t have to get in that car.” literally, the first thing she says is about how you do not have to resort to sex work. how is that encouraging the profession?

further into the video janet discusses her income. keeping in mind the quote from laverne above, and the fact that janet was 17-18 at the time in need of things for her transition, its clear why she says the sex work helped compared to her other jobs. but she worked in sex work out of necessity, not preference. she says it was “quick money”—the only kind of cash you get from sex work

lastly, she talks about the other girls in sex work. she says that there was a sense of community and resiliency within sex work. she is encouraging the concept of trans women banding together and surviving together despite all odds; she is NOT encouraging sex work itself.

in response to laura jane grace’s lyrics: yes, they are offensive and yes, they are misogynistic—but that is the point. the song is about growing up as a boy and participating in patriarchal activities but not wanting to. it says so in the lyrics—“there will always be a difference between me and you,” meaning laura is not misogynistic, or a boy. the song is from her album “transgender dysphoria blues” which is dedicated to her experiences as a trans person. in the song she acknowledges the hate participating in it, but she does not want to. its a song about feeling trapped.

also, way to go using male pronouns, and wow—someone does something wrong seven years ago, i guess it totally denounces all of their more recent amazing accomplishments.

also, on the page i looked up the lyrics from, it says ““Drinking With The Jocks” describes singer Laura Janes Grace’s self-denial while still living as Tom Gabel. Around 2007, Grace went through a bout of intense gender dysphoria, which she recounted on the song “The Ocean” from that year’s New Wave album.” 2007 was also the year when the article you linked was posted, strange.

yes, WOW janet mock wrote a book on living as a trans woman, and WOW laura jane grace made an album about living as a trans woman. do you not understand that this is revolutionary? trans people are getting mainstream exposure and we are finally able to talk about our experiences in depth, and people listen. janet mocks book is a new york times best seller and laura jane graces album has countless positive reviews, and both inspire trans people everywhere.

"It is revolutionary for any trans person to choose to be seen and visible in a world that tells us we should not exist." - laverne cox

as a trans person, you should be ecstatic and proud of the achievements of these women, but instead you are trying to twist them into being negative to make yourself, and other mislead trans men, look better. yes, trans men have done amazing things—such as mr. stone here, and the other men on found this site—but the things these women are doing are on a scale larger than ever before. they just so happen to be trans women, and you seem to have a problem with that.
