A relationship that’s cooled off can be lonely sometimes

I mean, I can totally understand why people have issues with the animation in Sailor Moon Crystal. I don’t like some of the wonkiness either.
I just get tired of people focusing excursively on that when I think there are some wonderful things going on with SMC story wise. There is perhaps even more more emphasis on how lonely and isolated the senshi were before meeting Usagi than in the previous anime. SMC is already making strides to show the strength of their relationships, which is wonderful and so important for a female audience. Supportive female relationships have been one of the defining traits of Sailor Moon. We’re getting the manga characterizations, which were frankly more consistent, and imo, better than the original anime. There is great voice acting overall, and some wonderful humour. There has also been some wonderful character development from Ami, Rei and Usagi. Ami is gaining more confidence, Rei is realized her powers are nothing to be ashamed of and Usagi is showing more and more that her true power and heroic ability is reaching out to people. ANd also some really badass moments.
If people are cringing over SMC’s animation that that’s fine. I’ve cringed over it too. But I find a lot of really good, worthwhile things about the series, and I feel like they’re sometimes being glossed over or ignored entirely in favour of criticizing the animation. But if the show just really doesn’t work for you, then okay! I just wanted to express the elements in the show so far that are important to me.
"You know that feeling…. where the first moment you see someone, it’s like they have a big gold star around them? And you have to get to know them. Well, there’s this girl… I think she’s a senior. She’s usually dressed, kinda punk. But sometimes I see her in this, like - army uniform, and she’s always drawing in this notebook, looking so intense. I had no idea how I would ever… like, have an excuse to talk to her, til’ I noticed she and her friends hang out and play street fighter at the seven eleven every day after school.”

Racial bias in America: from higher suspension rates in preschool, to disproportionate rates of capital punishment, to everything in between, structures of authority routinely allow anti-Black racial bias to color the “facts”, and warp the narrative. And frequently (whether unintentional or otherwise) the police and the media often work together to further criminalize innocent Black victims
1. Criminalizing Blackness in America
2. 14-year-old Tremaine McMillian attacked and choked by police, literally while holding a puppy…because McMillian made them “feel threatened” and gave them “dehumanizing stares”
3. Author and CNN contributor keithboykin: how the AP slandered Renisha McBride even in death
4. The Associated Press: when can skin color alone determine who is and who isn’t a looter? (hint: don’t be Black)
This implicit racial bias does not magically stop at innocuous events like the VMAs, or in Hollywood. So far, it doesn’t ever turn off. There are two Americas and racial bias is as ubiquitous as the air we breathe
except that white people didn’t immigrate into the united states… they funded the united states. you can’t illegally immigrate into a society you created.
Translation: Just as I was thinking about how risky it was to include “The Thingy Rises” in Gintama the Movie: The Final Chapter - and how Gintama would for sure be obliterated this time - I was told that “We’ve been given permission by Ghibli to do this.”
Ghibli-san, are you serious?!?!?!
