Last Wednesday, FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler announced a proposal for new rules that would allow for a “ fast lane” of Internet traffic for content providers who are willing (and able) to pay a fee. [1] The proposal reverses the FCC’s previous commitment to net neutrality and open internet and allows ISP’s like Comcast or Verizon to slow down and censor services that don’t pay the toll.
We have to be totally honest, this situation is seriously grim. But there is still hope. The FCC already knows that the Internet community wants net neutrality, but they think they can put their spin on these new rules and sneak them through. If we can prove them wrong right now with a massive public outcry, we can literally save the Internet once again.
We need to stop the FCC now. Big business groups are already ramping up lobbying efforts with the FCC in swarms since Wednesday’s announcement in support of censoring the open Internet and to ensure this dangerous proposal moves forward. [2]
This is a critical moment. In the last few weeks more than 65,000 people have taken action with us. Can you help us get to 80,000 by the end of the day today?

They’ve taught us that good queers don’t get mad. They’ve taught us so well that we not only hide our anger from them, we hide it from each other. WE EVEN HIDE IT FROM OURSELVES. LET YOURSELF BE ANGRY. Let yourself be angry that the price of our visibility is the constant threat of violence, anti- queer violence to which practically every segment of this society contributes. Let yourself feel angry that THERE IS NO PLACE IN THIS COUNTRY WHERE WE ARE SAFE, no place where we are not targeted for hatred and attack, the self-hatred, the suicide —- of the closet. The next time some straight person comes down on you for being angry, tell them that until things change, you don’t need any more evidence that the world turns at your expense. You don’t need to see only hetero couple grocery shopping on your TV … You don’t want any more baby pictures shoved in your face until you can have or keep your own. No more weddings, showers, anniversaries, please, unless they are our own brothers and sisters celebrating. And tell them not to dismiss you by saying “You have rights,” “You have privileges,” “You’re overreacting,” or “You have a victim’s mentality.” Tell them “GO AWAY FROM ME, until YOU can change.” Go away and try on a world without the brave, strong queers that are its backbone, that are its guts and brains and souls. Go tell them go away until they have spent a month walking hand in hand in public with someone of the same sex. After they survive that, then you’ll hear what they have to say about queer anger.
Otherwise, tell them to shut up and listen
a lot of fanfic is very blatantly like, young people attempting to make something they don’t have the resources or skill to. fanfic often reads like tv shows or movies or often anime, and i feel like that is sort of what the author would WANT to do. but the writer is a kid that doesn’t have the access to the right software or resources, and probably not the knowledge or training needed to make what they are really after. like, songfics are the clearest example. like, these are kids trying to make a music video they have painstakingly constructed in their head, but using skills and materials accessible to them.
I DON’T KNOW. it’s cool! it’s cool! it’s these often shy and unhappy misfit kids trying to reach out to other shy and unhappy misfit kids and make art that has meaning for them, usually through writing queer relationships or characters they don’t see anywhere else that means something to them. often against restrictions, whether they’re mental or social or financial. and like, it doesn’t make it good quality art but it makes it something that has weight and deserves a lot less mockery than it gets.
It’s horrifying that I’m not the only one facing this, that white people not only romanticize the fuck out of our religion and culture, appropriate it, but now have taken to trying to teach us how it works instead.
