there are absolutely 0 things wrong w/ being critical of media and it should def be encouraged but it sure is weird that most of the stuff people get really vehement about “boycotting” seems to be stuff made by and/or about marginalized people

how did you get into gintama?
i think i heard about it on tumblr and saw some screencaps going around?? then it took me a few months to actually get around to watching it bc i was super into ygo at the time, and then naruto, but usually it just takes me that long regardless bc im bad at watching things. mostly i was thinking ‘should i watch naruto instead of this….. GINTAMA…. or not??’ eventually i decided NO i wasnt going to watch 500 episodes of teen ninja comic fuck that.

there are definitely some good reasons to be critical of Urbance even with so little information available but I think the outright REFUSAL to recognize ANY of the legitimately good qualities about it as your way of.. idk protesting it? is very telling imo
y’all gotta remember your personal representation isn’t the only representation that is sorely lacking today. one piece of media is not going to be everyone’s answer.
we’ve still got people and a culture that are being positively represented in Urbance and they, too, deserve to be
absolutely be critical where it’s due but don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater if you get my drift
