j.law has made transphobic comments before (you check here) so i don’t think you can claim they are thoughtless remarks that time.
yeah i had a feeling she had before but i didnt have any links so thank you (theres a lot of other stuff in there incl #ableism #transphobia #transmisogyny #misogyny #cultural appropriation #racism #eating disorder #slurs #body shaming #fat shaming holy shit theres a lot be careful)
You can’t pick and choose what parts of feminism you want. You can’t support your queer sisters but not your trans sisters. You can’t support your fat sisters but not your sisters of colour. Being a feminist means creating a positive and equal space for women. The second you start excluding women based on which characteristics you do or do not find appealing you have defeated the whole point of being a feminist.
turning anon off this is stressing me out
but calling out a comment for being transphobic/transmisogynistic isnt necessarily the same thing as calling the person who said it transphobic/transmisogynistic. everyone has said transphobic or transmisogynist things before, its inevitable when youre brought up in a cissexist society
and. yeah? most people probably havent had a comprehensive and thoughtful education on trans people in school and maybe they dont know any (tho i doubt that) but that doesnt mean what they say as a result of that doesnt hurt, it doesnt mean it isnt wrong. the difference between “thoughtless” transphobia and purposeful transphobia is just the intent. but they are both still harmful and ultimately have the same effect.
i dont know jennifer lawrence? i dont know if she’s been talked to about this in any way and i dont know how/if she is working on her views on trans people and/or trans women. all i know is what she’s said, and what she said was way the hell transmisogynistic and i dont have to hold back on calling it exactly that just because it might have been the result of ignorance.
and if in a hypothetical situation you said something offensive in a language you’re not incredibly familiar with and got yelled at? at least you learned what you said was wrong. hopefully you will go and figure out what and why that is.
i ask for more joui 4 backstory but i dont actually want them take them away from me
the statistic is NOT “1 in 3 native women will be raped in their lifetime”
the real statistic is “1 in 3 native women will be raped AT LEAST ONCE in their lifetime”
this is a very important distinction to make please make it known im serious. also its worth noting that 70% of our rapes are carried out by colombus’ crew aka white men. murders also happen more at the hands of white men. this is all important information and im pissed it was ignored in that photoset
PSA for the Pacific Rim fandom: Don’t trust a word that comes from the Pacific Rim twitter/facebook page that links to PacificRim-Movie.net. They’re the social media arms of a Scified site that has no affiliation with Warner Brothers / Legendary but “happens” to have a legitimate-sounding name. Their Godzilla counterpart caused significant confusion in the months before the new movie with its wildly speculative or outright misleading headlines/tweets/posts. This context-free image posted last night looks to be more of the same.
