sometimes i try to explain why i put songs on a mix but?? usually theres no reason that i can explain. its not even the lyrics a lot of the time. i put a song on a mix based on the overall feel of it, like yeah the lyrics matter a little but the sound matters a lot more, so i think if the lyrics are even just vaguely about w/e the mix is about and the sound works for the mood its all good

no but really: gai and lee’s relationship and personalities are pretty thoroughly rooted in more obscure/older japanese social conventions which is why they can be really easily misinterpreted outside of japan, especially in america

things that are supposed to make them seem hot blooded, passionate, hardworking, cheesy, and very unhip (the hugging and crying, sunsets, spandex, screaming about youth) get lost in cross-cultural translation and come off as being kinda homoerotic because gay culture is wildly different around the world

heterosexuals on deviantart are so protective of their heterosexuality that they’re threatened by gay people so they find it necessary to make everything straight so they can feel better about themselves just LOOK
