the nickname for qpps here in the aro community if u dont know is 'zucchini', or since im british i like to say cucucumber haha. so like 'this person is my zucchini', it could be slightly less problematic? ppl who aren't on the aro spectrum can have a qpr, b/c anyone can love someone in an intensely platonic way, but if theyre not aro theyre more likely to just interpret it as just being 'best friends'. im personally not sure how i feel ab/t allo ppl using the term, but i can see why they would.

lmao yeah i came across the term earlier when i was googling and iw as like?? what??? but thats kinda cute haha

yeah i do think alloro ppl can experience a qp …….. attraction?? idk. but if theyre both/all alloro idk how i feel about that. if one of them is aro i think it could work bc it would actually apply to them

bc i feel like if alloro people used it to describe their relationship with other alloro people more people would start to think of it as just being best friends or w/e instead of what it actually is

sorry if im butting in but honestly ive always been kinda uncomf w/ alloro ppl using qp to talk about relationships that arent with aro ppl?? it just feels like something that you dont really get unless youre aro

oh yeah definitely, i think i meant to put sth in there about that but it probably got deleted in editing

but yeah i think it’d be hard for alloro ppl to really know what a qpr is bc they know what a romantic relationship feels like and its like…… if the other person isnt aro idk what youre doing.

(sorry for cutting in) from what i've seen, a lot of the community is preferring "quasiplatonic" over the other one (for the reasons of its history)! i'm (ugh) queer but i don't... like the word so i much prefer quasiplatonic or just... "qp"

yeah i get that. i like quasiplatonic too. i just use qp a lot bc 1) im lazy and 2) its nice and symmetrical. tbh i dont call myself the q-word either just bc…. ive never identified with it i guess. and i dont really feel a need to reclaim it either. i dont know, its complicated

ive also heard that ppl call it life-partnership?? but idk if thats even more misleading than qp

A while ago I was asked about the construction of the Vietnamese Ao Dai and Chinese Cheongsam/Qipao. I had a few dresses at my disposal and figured it would be fun to do a compare and contrast. Due to the small collection, I was only able to photograph a few samples (all tailored circa 2000s, except one I’m sure…). This basically just covers the “classic” tailoring styles of Ao Dai and Cheongsam/Qipao. The latest trends may not adhere to it!

NOTE: For simplicity’s sake, I primarily used the word Cheongsam (Cantonese) instead of Qípáo (Mandarin) because its wider use as an English loanword.
