im not a movie critic but im definitely native american and let me just say that that extremely racist movie should have never gotten another remake. the "indians" played a huge part in it and the depiction of them was just awful. they depicted us as red faced, hot tempered, savages. the dances and chants they did were so terribly inaccurate and offensive. i really don't see how they can go about a remake without coming off as insensitive or racist unless they change the entire tribe's backstory

this is exactly what i’m thinking, too. the conversation among non-natives who are upset at the lack of accurate “poc representation” needs to be pushed a loooooot further than what it is, right now, because no matter what, any representation of tiger lily (accurate or not) is going to be seeped in the racist writing of native americans in peter pan. i honestly think the whole movie shouldn’t be made or it should be transformed in a way that has a humanizing portrayal of native americans, but knowing it’s hollywood, an institution built on dehumanizing non-white people, that’s not likely at all. it’s awful all around.

According to new FBI statistics released this week, violent crime rates in the US fell over 4% in the past year alone, bringing the amount of violent crimes lower than it has been in nearly 40 years. The statistics showed that there were an estimated 1.16 million violent crimes in the year of 2013, which is the lowest number since 1978, when 1.09 million were recorded.

Broken down, the report revealed that manslaughter dropped by 4.4% to 14,196, the lowest rate since 1968, while instances of rape were down 6.3%. Despite the tough economic times, robbery is also down by 2.8% and property crimes were down by 4.1%.
The violent crime rate has been steadily declining since 1994, but the prison population has continued to increase over the decades. There are currently over two and a half million people imprisoned in the US, which is by far the largest prison population in the world.

While Americans are less violent, police murders are at it’s highest in 20 years

According to an FBI report, police commited 461 ‘justified murders’ last year alone.

The report doesn’t account for non-felony suspects or murders that have not been considered ‘justified’, meaning the number of actual police murders is MUCH higher.

When news outlets bring up shia lebeouf’s past alcohol abuse and label his rape claim “the latest in a string of odd behavior” that is rape culture, that is victim blaming, please do not forget that. shia’s mental health is being used to discredit his emotional trauma, and to make a statement that mentally ill or recovering rape victims can’t be trusted because they’re ~crazy~

CONGRATS!!! ONE POLICE OFFICER HUGGED ONE PROTESTER!!! WHAT DID IT CHANGE?? NOTHING

princettesei

What really bugs me about the talk surrounding those photos is how the white cop will be portrayed as some kind of hero.

The real heroes are the black kids who are still willing to hug these guys when they would have had every right to react with fear or anger towards any and all police officers right now. Especially white ones.
