On October 13, the village voted to ban pit bulls and Rottweilers.
A letter was sent out to owners saying that if they didn’t get rid of them by December 1, then they would be taken for “further disposition.”
The dog pictured above is a pit bull named Zeus. He is owned by a girl named O’Hara Owens, whose neck problems require her to wear a brace and use a wheel chair. Zeus has never been accused of any aggressive behavior, and he’s a huge comfort to O’Hara:
"If anything ever happened to him, I would just shut down," she said. […] She says Zeus acts as a sort of "therapy dog," providing love and support for her and her other brothers and sisters.
"I can sit here if I’m in pain, he comes and he notices it before I even make any noise," she said.
O’Hara’s family says they will not surrender Zeus, to which Moreauville Alderman Penn Lemoine replies that the village government will take the dog by force, fine the family, and kill Zeus:
We asked Lemoine about dog attacks…
"There have been, but I don’t think they’re documented," he said.
And, if they plan to kill the dogs they collect on December 1…
"I’d rather not elaborate on that," he said.
"Is that what it is? Are you going to kill the dogs?" asked reporter, Brooke Buford.
"If that’s what the ordinance says, then that’s what it says," Lemoine responded.
However, Lemoine did admit that the town might reconsider in the face of enough uproar, so O’Hara’s family created a petition for exactly that purpose. Hopefully, the ordinance will be overturned. I hope and think it will, thanks to the media attention and public outcry over this patently ridiculous law. In reference to the use of the word Bara: There is a blog post with an interview from gay manga artist Gengoroh Tagame going around thatmany people in the online community are interpreting as meaning that the term “bara” is a slur. To give some history on it and to bring clarity, please know that it is not a slur in the sense of it being a discriminatory term. It is an antiquated word that is not used among contemporary artists or even the general community, but does have a history associated with it. The post, whose author posted a portion of an interview with Tagame, is correct in that its usage used to be close to the term “pansy” in English, but in 1971, had become reappropriated with the release of the gay magazine Barazoku.
Contemporarily, the term is used by English fans of the genre and has become a loan word that, at worse, is misused as a category to inapplicable things but is more commonly used to refer to Japanese manga the features “burly men.” It’s is rarely if at all used by Japanese artists but does not equate to a slur against the gay community. Some artists however, as is the case with Tagame, prefer the term “geikomi” ゲイコミ to describe their works due to the antiquated history of the word “bara”.
Their wishes deserve to be respected, but you do not need to panic over the use of the term in regards to the collective idea of a genre. Having spoken with friends from Japan and reading over follow-up posts from the blog that many people are referring to, this has become a case of people misreading and completely over exaggerating the context of a word that is antiquated and rarely used in modern Japan.
If you are looking for more accurate terms to use to describe art or gay men featured in gay manga, there are definitely words that help.
gachimuchi 「ガチムチ」- muscle-chubby
gachidebu 「ガチデブ」- muscle-fatty
gacchiri 「ガッチリ」- muscular
debu 「デブ」- fat
TL;DR: Bara has become a loan word and is not actually a slur. It is antiquated and some artists prefer not to use the term for their works. Respect the artist by not mis-catergorizing their works. Do your research, and avoid applying the term liberally.

Gather round kids while I explain this manipulation tactic that men perpetually try to use and why it’s bullshit.
If someone is openly showing interest in you by making disparaging or disappointed comments about your age, they’re trying to put you on the defensive. This guy wants me to try to quell his discomfort, to bring up that I’m only a month shy of 20, etc. - he wants me to try to prove myself to him, that I’m mature and adult enough for a man like him.
His goal is to establish a power imbalance right off the bat. If we were to date, I would constantly be on the defensive, constantly striving to be an equal, constantly trying to prove my “adult” credentials. Anything he says or does or wants from this point on that I object to would just be seen as a strike against my age, proof that he was right and that I’m not mature enough for him. This is how SO MANY men pressure younger individuals (primarily women and girls) into situations and relationships they aren’t comfortable with. If he truly thought I was too young for him, he wouldn’t have messaged me. This is a very calculated move, and it’s fucking gross.
Adult relationships with age gaps are completely fine, but only if all parties view each other as equals. If someone is trying to set you up in a way that ensures that’s never a possibility, run far away.
THIS IS IMPORTANT. And I am so glad the original poster recognized this manipulation and decided to speak up about it.
This is exactly what we’re talking about when we urge our young readers to stay away from relationships with large age gaps. We’re talking about an imbalance of power that makes these relationships unfair from go and can often be a slippery slope for other types of abuse.
Also, if anyone tries to make you feel badly for how THEY feel about you: whether it’s your age, your intelligence, your authority; know that it is a gross manipulation meant to put you on the defense as well.
This is Bonaparte, he is a 10-12 week old stray Maine Coon we found on the highway about a week ago. His tail is all necrotic, dead tissue and he needs his tail amputated as it is causing him pain anytime his tail is touched, and the top vertebrae at the base of his tail is broken. The skin is also tearing off underneath his tail at the base, and is tearing his anus. Without corrective surgery on his anus, he will likely face incontinence problems for the rest of his life. He needs his tail amputated as well, it is hard for him to use the litter box because his tail gets in the way and it hurts to touch it. So a few months ago I changed the background of the computer I was on in one of the labs at school to this:
ya know…. just for the hell of it.
A week later, someone changed it back to a generic background that comes with the computer. I knew this wasn’t a system reset or anything because I’ve changed the background on other computers and they’ve lasted there for a few weeks at least. So, naturally, I changed it back.
The next week, the person changed it back to the generic background. This would not do. I decided to change it up a little and leave a message for them. Thus, this photo was born:
For about two months now, I have casually changed the background back to this photo every week.
Tonight, I am pulling an all nighter in this lab and I decided I must take it up a notch. Now, every computer is sporting this background.

Anti-black racism is pervasive as fuck in american vietnamese communities and back home in vietnam. This is coming from my own experiences within my homes, communities, and schools.
We have derogatory language for many other races. White ppl, latin@s, etc. But often, only those perceived as black or latin@ will be spoken of negatively.
Vietnamese children are taught to fear other poc. If a child is behaving badly in public and a poc is nearby we’d tell them that the “mi deng” will get them. As a child, I remember having to lie about a friend’s race if I wanted to go to their house. My Latin@ (I lived and continue to live in a large spanish speaking community) friends would become white or vietnamese girls.
The older generation carried much of their racism to america when they immigrated because of the war. In vietnam there are stereotypical blackface comedy skits that are still happening. And the younger generation of vietnamese americans absorbed this and the added systemic racism still evident in american culture. I continue to hear young vietnamese americans using racist coded language when they don’t want another poc to realize they’re speaking of them.
I’m writing all this to other fellow viets. If you see or hear your viet family members or friends saying or doing racist things call them out on it. Tell them that whatever they did or said was racist. My mother did not understand the harm she was doing until I explained it to her. This is a cultural and linguistic barrier that we need to overcome to ensure newer generations of viets don’t absorb that kind of racist bullshit.
