It’s just frustrating when ppl call them genders because it’s insinuating gender and sex are the same when these are very much PHYSICAL and had ritual importance outside of how one identifies- and as an intersex person it often ties into intersex erasure. Like my intersex status as a Jew determines when I go to mikveh, and that’s all because of physical traits, not my gender identity

  38. ashkenazi-auntie said: @j-uwu-ish it’s not as clear cut as that but you’re pretty much right. they’re a decent halokhic basis for recognizing sex is not binary and validating trans people in religious settings, but they’re also a little…not great? like, they’re useful for progressive jews as a basis but we ought not to romanticize them and believe the world of sex and gender during the time of the sages treated all these different people as equals
