My mom did this to me when I was younger and coming out and everything and I can confirm it only made me better at lying to her. It’s not hard to build trust in children, to give them reasons to believe that they can trust you and confide in you. It’s as simple as giving them the same respect, making them feel safe and comfortable and valued.
